Books that I'm reading and books that I want to read...

Image
The last few weeks haven't been great for reading but I have managed to get a few comics and a couple of books under my belt. I'm going to have to space posts out a bit (things are still very busy what with one thing and everything else...) but posts will happen ;o) In the meantime, I've got a few books on the go along with some others that I'd like to get to sooner rather than later (we'll see how that goes). Lets take a look, shall we? Apologies in advance for the photos... I am reading the 'Siege of Terra' books completely out of order, more or less based on whatever cover happens to catch my eye ;o) 'Mortis' has a massive Titan, attacking the walls of the Imperial Palace, so there was no contest really. It has been a slog to get through, more on that another time, but I'm on the home straight and the plan is to finish it today, Fingers crossed and all that ;o) 'Fifteen Hours' is in this pile as the Book Stooge had things to say about...

What I'm Reading and What I'm Going To Be Reading...

Image
Sorry about the silent blog over the last couple of days... Last week did for me, in the end, and so Saturday ended up being about sleeping in and then revisiting 'Captain America: Civil War' (still very cool). I had my kids over on Sunday so blogging was never on the agenda, playing 'Crash Team Racing' (with my youngest) was though ;o)  I'll tell you what else I did... In the middle of trying to tidy up the flat a little, I gathered all the books that I've been reading (and a few that I want to read soon) into one reasonably sized pile so that I don't have to keep looking for random books every time I fancy a read. Look at me being all organised ;o) This approach worked pretty well last time so I thought it would be worth giving it another go and seeing what happened. Lets take a look, shall we? First up are the books that I've been dipping in and out of over the last week. Two 'Conan' books didn't make it across from the last TBR pile, not...

What I'm reading/What I'm going to be reading...

Image
I don't often do these posts anymore, mostly because it's well proven that I'm rubbish at sticking to reading my way through a TBR pile that I've made for myself. There's always something else to read first and if there isn't, well... I'm getting more and more picky with my reading as I get more and more middle-aged. What can I do? ;o) I'm doing one of these posts today though, mostly because my reading slowed right down last week and I need a little breathing space while I catch up (and look on the shelves for the remaining books that I read while on hiatus last year). Lets see how well I do with it... Not shown in the picture is my Kindle which I'm using to read Victoria Hayward's 'Deathworlder' (which is great fun by the way, if that's the correct way to describe an entire planet being consumed by Tyranids... the hell with it, I stand by what I said). So, what else are we looking at...? I'm just over halfway through 'Blight...

What I'll be reading this week (fingers crossed)...

Image
This has worked quite well in the past, and I absolutely need some focus (to my reading) at the moment, so lets see how it works this time round ;o) My poor flat is full of TBR piles right now and work is gearing up to be a bit of a nightmare this week, here is my latest attempt to chip away at the TBR piles and escape from work and into a book... I'm already cheating a little bit as I'm a third of the way through 'Things Have Gotten Worse' and well into 'Grimblades'. Both are excellent albeit for very different reasons, if you've read 'Things Have Gotten Worse' then you'll know exactly what I mean... (I still can't get those last few pages out of my head) 'Grimblades' is my latest excursion back into the Old World, it's full of blood and death but I wouldn't have it any other way. If I finish both of those then I'll see if I can polish off 'The Black Corridor' as well. It has been years since I read it last and I...

What I'll be reading this week...

Image
(Standard disclaimers apply of course, this week was going to be busy enough as it was but I'm on a two day training course as well, happy days...) I used to make big plans for a months reading but ended up just getting tired of making an idiot of myself on a monthly basis . A week's reading though...? I think I could handle that, especially with a ready made excuse to hand (this week really is going to be a nightmare...) Let me introduce you to this week's reading; a couple of books half finished and a couple waiting in reserve in case I need them... I'm about halfway through 'Clickers Never Die' and it's my main reading focus for the week because it is bloody marvellous reading. If you like the 'Clickers' books then you're going to love this but it's also a good place to jump on board the series. A full review should turn up soon but in the meantime, just read it ;o)  If I finish 'Clickers Never Die', 'Myth Conceptions' is u...

In which a reading slump gives rise to another TBR Pile...

Image
I've hit a bit of a reading slump this week. Okay, a lot of a reading slump... Nothing seems to have gone quite right this week, either at home or at work, and my ability to get into (and stick with) a good book has taken a real beating as a result. Just two more days until the weekend, just two more days... What do you do when you hit a reading slump like this...? I'll tell you what I do... I go for this scattergun approach where I will frantically read anything to hand and see if any of hem make it past the first fifty pages. Sometimes it even works, this week though... This week, I've ended up with another little mini TBR pile to go with all the other little TBR piles that keep cropping up around the flat. The good thing about this is that I get to post a few pictures and have a 'Lazy Post Day' here :o) Look, I'm about due one of those. Don't judge me... ;o) Take a look then and let me know if you've read any of these or if any take your fancy... Thes...

What am I reading at the moment?

A ‘semi-regular’ series that sprung out of me wanting to talk about books before I review them? Or is it just that I realised that the blog was set to Pacific Standard Time and I wanted to post something that didn’t look as if it had been posted yesterday…? You decide ;o) At my fastest, I used to be able to read a book a day. Then depression happened and I was lucky if I could find a book that I could read in a fortnight… I’m a little bit quicker than that these days but not as quick as I’d like to be (having two children doesn’t help either). Hence one of the reasons for this post and others like it to come, just a bit of friendly chat about what I’m reading and what I think of it so far. So, what am I reading…? ‘ The Bone Ships’ – R.J. Barker TWO NATIONS AT WAR. A PRIZE BEYOND COMPARE. For generations, the Hundred Isles have built their ships from the bones of ancient dragons to fight an endless war. The dragons disappeared, but the battles for supremacy pers...
