I’ve been more about the books just recently but at the same time, the flat has been a little quiet as well so in the evenings, I’ve had a few movies playing, just for a bit of background noise (and also to drown out the singing from the pub over the road…) The movies weren’t brilliant but that’s ok; I wasn’t after ‘brilliant’, just something to occupy my eyes when I wasn’t reading ;o) Even so, I still managed to find a movie that I really shouldn’t have bothered with. Lets start with that one first… ‘Evilution’ (2008) When an alien life form resurrects the dead and turns them on the human race, a young scientist must fight to contain the catastrophe and eradicate the alien menace. One of those films where I wish I’d paid a little more attention, just so I knew what was going on, but at the same time, it was so dull that my attention kept sliding. That will teach me for insisting on watching every single zombie movie I find… :o) All I’ll say is… If the young scientist really wanted to ...

Because every now and then, I get this urge to try and get my money's worth out of Amazon Prime by watching a few films that I left on my watch list and forgot about until now... Reading that back, that may be the most middle-aged thing I've ever written but lets just go with it and see where we end up. It was a good mixture of films actually. Not all of them worked a hundred percent but at least I can say I gave them a go now ;o) Just some quick thoughts though as I want to get an early night ahead of what is going to be an 'interesting' day at work tomorrow. It doesn't take a lot to convince me to check a film out, usually just the title will do. If it has 'zombies' or 'of the dead' in the title then it's a safe bet I'll be watching it (if I haven't already) but it doesn't have to. Anything that's just a little bit mad and comes across as not really caring what it calls itself, that will get my attention every time. A film called something like 'Psycho Goreman' for instance... A title that promises exactly what it says it is. I didn't even bother checking out what it was about, just got on with the serious business of watching it. Welcome back to another entry in that 'very occasional' series where I revisit 'Discworld' books, often after a number of years since I last read them. Back when I was a lot younger, I made it a point of, well... being a very geeky twenty something to read every single 'Discworld' book as soon as it appeared in paperback. Many a Christmas game of Monopoly was deliberately thrown by me so that I could get back to reading whatever 'Discworld' book was published that year (and I don't regret it). As time went on though, I fell out of love with the series (it had to move away from its fantasy roots but that didn't mean that I had to like it) and I eventually stopped reading... And then a few years ago, I started reading 'Discworld' books again. I was having a particularly shitty time and needed some comfort reading, 'Discworld' was there and I've been slowly catching up ever since. All of which brings me to 'Carpe Jugulum...

It's becoming a bit of a habit... The days are just packed full of stuff at the moment and by the time it's all done, there's not really time for much else other than to watch a movie and go to bed. My TBR pile is looking a little dusty at the moment, I've got the week off work so will have to see if I can do something about that... In the meantime, tonight was all about watching 'Snatchers', a film that I'd seen covered on 'Carnage Counts' and thought to myself, 'I need to give that a shot...' And once the DVD came through the letterbox, that's exactly what I did :o) One night stands come with their own set of problems but no-one faced a morning after like Sara's... After a night with her ex-boyfriend, Sara wakes up pregnant, nine months pregnant... The only person she can trust is her ex-best friend, Hayley but a trip to the clinic and one dead doctor later; it's clear that things are even less normal than they already thoug...

Some people will pick their next read based on a favourite author while others will pick theirs based on a certain genre that they quite fancy dipping into. I will quite happily do both of these but what you will see me do just as often is go for the book with the coolest sounding name. The more sombre it sounds, the better. The sillier it sounds, also the better. This is why I read ' Every Time We Meet at the Dairy Queen, Your Whole Fucking Face Explodes' one time and why I will be reading 'Exit Wounds', on the bus, in the morning when I go back to work. This is one of the reasons I've been reading 'Clowns vs Spiders' over the last day or two. I mean, how could anyone not pick up a book with a title like that? If you can then you're a stronger person than I am but you're also missing out on a little treat by 'rapidly becomng a new favourite author of mine' Jeff Strand.
