Movie Night! ‘Background Noise’ Edition
I’ve been more about the books just recently but at the same time, the flat has been a little quiet as well so in the evenings, I’ve had a few movies playing, just for a bit of background noise (and also to drown out the singing from the pub over the road…) The movies weren’t brilliant but that’s ok; I wasn’t after ‘brilliant’, just something to occupy my eyes when I wasn’t reading ;o) Even so, I still managed to find a movie that I really shouldn’t have bothered with. Lets start with that one first…
‘Evilution’ (2008)
When an alien life form resurrects the dead and turns them on the human race, a young scientist must fight to contain the catastrophe and eradicate the alien menace.
One of those films where I wish I’d paid a little more attention, just so I knew what was going on, but at the same time, it was so dull that my attention kept sliding. That will teach me for insisting on watching every single zombie movie I find… :o)
All I’ll say is… If the young scientist really wanted to ‘contain the catastrophe’, why didn’t he just escape and leave the virus on the base (that the military were about to bomb)? The movie would have been a lot shorter but that wouldn’t have necessarily been a bad thing.
‘Return to Sleepaway Camp’ (2008)
When people mysteriously disappear and turn up as gruesome corpses at Camp Manabe, paranoid camp co-owner Ronnie is haunted by memories of the grisly murders that occurred at Camp Arawak two decades earlier.
What was it about 2008 and horror movies that weren’t all that? Well, that was my thought after watching ‘Return to Sleepaway Camp’. To be fair, it wasn’t as bad as ‘Evilution’ but some decent death scenes notwithstanding, the movie felt more like an excuse to set up the death scenes rather than work through an actual plot. Ridiculous then, but kind of fun at the same time.
‘Claw’ (2021)
When two friends are forced to spend the night in a ghost town, they discover that a prehistoric predator is preying on them.
Quick question… If a velociraptor is found living in the present day, does it still count as a ‘prehistoric predator’ or is it actually now just a ‘regular everyday predator’?
Anyway…
Another ‘not completely terrible’ but still somehow lacklustre movie. I really need to do better with my next round of movie choices… Fun to watch but not scary in the slightest and if your main character is a stand-up comedian then remind your scriptwriter to actually give her something funny to say.
‘Freaks of Nature’ (2015)
A town where humans, vampires and zombies live together in harmony is torn apart by the arrival of aliens. Three teenagers, a human, a vampire and a zombie, must set aside their differences and fight back.
I think at this point, I was getting annoyed at my inability to pick a decent movie so went for a re-watch that I knew would do the trick. And ‘Freaks of Nature’ did just that. Your sense of humour will determine how much you enjoy ‘Freaks of Nature’ but I will always appreciate a movie that still makes me laugh, even when I know when the punchline is about to hit.
Yep, I really need to make some better choices next time I turn the TV on. Any recommendations?

I'm with you about movies being great background noise, but stupid background noise is even worse than no background noise at all.
ReplyDeleteGood luck picking better ones next time :-D
Some you win and some you lose ;o) I'll have to be a little more discerning next time...
