‘Creepshow’ – Season 4

Image
I’m still that person who forgets he has Shudder and then goes on a mad watching spree to somehow try and justify the expense… I’d like to say that I’ll sort myself out but I’m a regular creature of habit so that’s not going to happen ;o) Halloween got me in the mood for some horror but after the bleak horror of ‘Lockdown Tower’, I needed something a little more light-hearted so when I realised that Season 4 of ‘Creepshow’ was on ‘Shudder’ and I had no other plans for Sunday, my afternoon and evening pretty much took care of itself. Just under six hours later… ‘Creepshow’ was just what I needed to get me over the bleakness of ‘Lockdown Tower’. It was a good mix of laughs, unsettling moments, full on scary bits and some particularly unlikeable people getting what they deserved. Not all of the episodes worked for me but enough did to make the Season a success, for me overall. Episodes are below followed by some quick thoughts on each… Episode 1 – ‘Twenty Minutes with Cassandra’ & ‘S...

'Creepshow’ – Season 3, Episode 6: ‘Drug Traffic’ & ‘Dead Girl Named Sue’

Image
I've had a really nice four days off work but I think that the time has finally come to go back into work for a little peace and quiet before the weekend... ;o) I also need to give my cash card a break but that's another story. Lets just say that I need to stop thinking I can keep track of the bill, as I go, when we're eating out. Oh well, three weeks until Payday :o) In the meantime though, it looks like this is the last episode of 'Creepshow' as far as Season 3 goes. It's been a great Season overall, not perfect but a hell of a lot more consistent in terms of the stories. Lets take a look at the last two stories, shall we...? Once again, it's going to be a shorter post than normal because I'm shattered and I'm back in the office tomorrow (well, working at my desk in my flat but you know what I mean)... 'Drug Traffic' A family is detained, and a young girl’s distressing symptoms quickly escalate without her medication. I love anything ...

'Creepshow’ – Season 3, Episode 5: ‘Time Out’ & ‘The Things In Oakwood’s Past’

Image
I’m in no mood to come up with anything bookish today (loads of reasons, most of them to do with work – there’s loads of it to get through before I go on leave next week…) so it was kind of fortuitous that this latest episode of ‘Creepshow’ came along when it did. I got to have a proper break, at lunchtime, and I’ve got something to blog about. Just a quick one mind you, it’s been a long day… ‘ Creepshow’ has had a few excellent stories, these last few weeks, but is still prone to those little lapses of consistency that leave you wondering why you watched the whole show instead of just the good story. The show has built up a lot of credit with me (when it's good, it's really good) but I still can't help but approach Thursdays with a little note of caution as I don't know which 'Creepshow' is going to show up. The excellent one, the 'half and half' or the not so good at all...? Well this week... I found myself watching another 'half and half' epi...

‘Creepshow’ – Season 3, Episode 4: ‘Stranger Sings’ & ‘Meter Reader'

Image
I wasn't planning on another 'Creepshow' post quite so soon but I had a little look on Prime earlier (just on the off chance) and it turned out they'd got their act together and put Episode 4 up on time. Who'd have thought it...? ;o) I won't go on too much here, because I did all that yesterday, but lets just say that all of a sudden, 'Creepshow' has become a little bit of a 'must watch' show so I was all over this episode. Was it any good though? Let me tell you. 'Stranger Sings' A Siren lures a doctor into her trap to carry out a diabolical plan. I ended up loving this story but maybe not for the reasons that it wanted me to. There are a couple of half decent jump scares but it ended up being this really sweet story about a nerdy doctor who was kind of looking for love and maybe found it when he was least expecting. Okay, the Siren did threaten to kill him, to start off with, but even so... 'Stranger Sings' ended up being kin...

‘Creepshow’ – Season 3, Episode 3: ‘The Last Tsuburaya’ & ‘Ok I'll Bite’

Image
This particular post is a little bit later than normal as there was something going on with Prime which meant this episode didn’t show for around about a week after it was meant to. Hey ho, that’s the way it goes sometimes. I happened to check Shudder yesterday, looking for something to watch, and when I saw it was finally up… Well, I was all over it because of just how great the last episode was (read my thoughts over Here ) and that isn’t something I say about ‘Creepshow’ very often. Actually, I don’t think I’ve ever said it at all come to think of it, funny that… But anyway. Episode 3 had an awful lot to live up to (from where I’m sat anyway) and perhaps inevitably, didn’t quite make it there. Not to worry too much though, there’s still an awful lot to like in these episodes and I’m starting to see a little consistency in the quality. A sign of better things to come? Fingers crossed…   ‘The Last Tsuburaya’ An immoral art collector could never have anticipated the ways a terri...

‘Creepshow’ – Season 3, Episode 2: ‘Skeletons In The Closet’ & ‘Familiar’

Image
I’ve actually done pretty well with my reading this week (all things considered) and today was going to be a book review. I say was … It was going to be a book review until I watched the new episode of ‘Creepshow’ and realised that I would have to post about that instead. Because it was just brilliant. I’ve been through a couple of Seasons of ‘Creepshow’ and the unfortunate rule of thumb is that in each episode, one story is always much better than the other. I mean, of course one will be better but the other one is often so disappointing that it affects the Season as a whole and that’s not cool. Not yesterday though, both episodes were great and while that does raise questions over whether the show can continue to meet that standard, lets just enjoy what we have for now. I know I always say this but these shows are only a free ‘Shudder’ trial away… Anyway, back to it… ‘Skeletons In The Closet’ A movie buff opens a prop museum but a rival collector could put everything at risk… A...

‘Creepshow’ – Season 3, Episode 1 : ‘Mums’/’Queen Bee’

Image
I don’t know how I got to this point but here I am… Youtube is now my official TV ‘Viewing Planner’. I have no idea what’s on any more but Youtube adverts will invariably pop up and let me know what I should be watching. Thanks Youtube, you’re pretty much the only reason why I’m getting any kind of value for money out of my ‘Shudder’ subscription 😉 Whatever video it was that I was watching earlier on this evening, an advert popped up and reminded me that Season 3 of ‘Creepshow’ is officially a thing now. The last couple of seasons have been a mixed bag (click here and you’ll see what I mean) but there was enough in those episodes to get me all intrigued by a new season. And it’s a horror anthology show, I have a real weakness for horror anthologies no matter what they’re like… Episode 1 then is why today is a ‘two post day’ instead of the normal ‘one post’ 😊 Was it any good though? Well, from where I was sat it wasn’t a bad opener, not a perfect one though… ‘Mums’   Jack...

Catching up with 'Creepshow'...

Image
My youngest daughter has been self isolating, for the last few days, and is getting a little too used to not having to be at school. She gets her lessons done early and the rest of the day is all about trashing my flat while I'm trying to get work done. Reading time was at a premium already and this development has put a further dent in it, I can't wait for her to go back to school... So what's a Graeme to do, in the meantime, when he can barely stir himself to even look at a book after a hard day's... everything really. Well, last night I thought I'd catch up on a little TV, specifically 'Creepshow'... You'll know this already but I've found this second season to be a little up and down in terms of the quality. Nothing too major but just enough to have me idly wondering whether I really want to keep watching if the show can't keep things on an even keel. You also know what I'm like though ;o) I love my horror anthologies and can't he...

'Creepshow Season 2, Episode 3: 'The Right Snuff/ Sibling Rivalry'

Image
It feels like whenever I look on Prime (which is far too often but that's another story...) there's another new episode of 'Creepshow', all bright and shiny and ready to be watched. And that's always cool, don't get me wrong, but I'd love it even more if I could pin down the exact day that a new episode drops. What I like to do is give myself little things to look forward to in the week; like a new episode of 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier' for example, that's my 'Friday Treat' :o) If I knew when to expect a new episode of 'Creepshow', that would be another day where I could reward myself for making it through. Oh well, it's not the worst problem in the world to have :o) Lets get down to business. I've enjoyed what I've seen of Season 2, so far, but for me, the show hasn't quite hit the heights that Season 1 did. Nothing so bad that it would stop me watching (me and horror anthologies, right?) but just a naggi...

What I've been watching...

Image
Do you ever have that feeling, when you come back to work after a holiday, that you may as well have just come in the previous week and just done the work? It's not quite that bad here but there have been a couple of moments where I've sat and wondered... So, no bookish post today then, I've only just managed to catch up with everything else! There will be one tomorrow though and then after that, hopefully we're all back to normal here. In the meantime though, I've been watching some surprisingly good stuff (as well as 'Detention of the Dead')' let me quickly tell you all about it... 'Scare Package' (2019) Chad, the owner of Rad Chad's Horror Emporium, recounts a series of bone-chilling, blood-splattered tales to illustrate the rules of the horror genre to his newest employee. Every time I see a new horror anthology movie on Shudder, I celebrate by sitting down and watching it immediately. You know that horror anthologies are my favourite...

'Creepshow Season 2, Episode 1: Model Kid/Public Television of the Dead'

Image
I've been going through one of my periodic 'agonising over whether to cancel Shudder' phases just recently. I'm always a little bit short at the end of the month so end up wondering (in that middle aged kind of way) whether I'm getting my money's worth out of my Shudder subscription. The funny thing is that something always seems to pop up that convinces me to keep the subscription going just a little bit longer. This time round, I popped into Prime Video, yesterday, and saw an advert for Season 2 of 'Creepshow'. I was sold :o) I binged the first season of 'Creepshow' whilst on holiday last August. Anyone who was about then might well remember that most of that week was 'Creepshow' posts.... Yep, that's the one ;o)  As is pretty much to be expected with anthology series of any kind, I found season one of 'Creepshow' to be a little up and down, in terms of quality (which is fair enough, you're not going to like everything ...

'Creepshow' – The Last Post... (Episodes 5 & 6)

Image
Well, my reading challenge has pretty much gone into a nosedive straight to Hell... :o) That's what happens when you're on holiday with two kids who just want all your attention. It doesn't do the ego any harm at all but just try and get any reading done and, well... you know ;o) Oh well, there's nothing there that can't wait another few days. It's a good job then that once they've fallen asleep at the end of the day, I've had 'Creepshow' to watch. It's had its ups and downs, as far as the quality goes, but has also swiftly become one of those 'why haven't I watched this a lot earlier' shows. On the whole, it's been the most fun I've had, watching a TV show, for a long time and I'd recommend it to you guys if I wasn't sure that you've all watched it already. All good things come to an end though so before I have to go and find something else to watch, here's what I thought of the stories in the l...

'Creepshow' – The Double Bill Post... (Episodes 3 & 4)

Image
Because not only am I loving this show but I ate something that disagreed with me, yesterday, and I was up most of last night being ill... I thought to myself, instead of just lying there and waiting for the cramps to stop, why don't I lie there and wait for the cramps to stop and watch some more 'Creepshow' at the same time? I didn't take much convincing, I let the dodgy stomach sort itself out and watched some great TV :o) I've got a busy one tomorrow so will be trying to keep this post fairly 'to the point'. Lets see how that one goes... 'All Hallow's Eve' A group of kids terrorise the neighbourhood on Halloween and... It's really obvious why they're doing it and what it all means. It's all signposted so heavily, to begin with, that you start to wonder why you're watching it and whether you might want to do a little sneaky skipping to the next story.... And aren't these kids kind of a little too nice a...

'Creepshow' – 'Bad Wolf Down' and 'The Finger'

Image
I'm still hoping to post some book reviews this week but I can see a few 'Creepshow' posts happening as well. I absolutely loved the first episode of 'Creepshow' (review just below this one) so jumped straight into the second one last night. I think after such a strong opening, there was always going to be trouble with the next episode trying to match that quality; I wasn't surprised to see it happen although it was a bit of a shame that it happened so quickly. I'm still going to make my way through the series but I'm not as buzzing about it as I was yesterday. It's still very early days though so all's not lost yet. Let's have a little chat then about 'Bad Wolf Down' and 'The Finger'... 'Bad Wolf Down' tells the tale of the survivors of a massacred American platoon, holed up in an abandoned police station with an SS general outside, looking to take revenge for the death of his son. The police station ...

First Episode, First Impressions... 'Creepshow'

Image
The first proper day of holiday was brilliant (although maybe a little too much walking for my slightly arthritic knee...) but it didn't leave me a lot of time for reading or in any state to read when we finally got home... That's ok, I knew there was a reaon why I bought loads of thin books and 'almost finished' books with me this time. In the meantime though, what was a Graeme to do as far as blogging went? Well, it seemed like as good a time as any to dust off an old feature and see where it took me. Yep, it's a 'welcome back' for 'First Episode, First Impressions' which kind of came to an abrupt end when I realised that I hadn't watched anything that had me desperate to watch more. The feature got quietly shelved and it was back to watching 'Doctor Who' and so on. It's back now and I've actually found a series that I want to watch more of. 'Creepshow', you're up... I never watched the original 'C...
