Some Quick Thoughts On 'Terrifier 3'

Because damn that was an assault on the senses and I'm still trying to process it... In a good way though :o) You're probably after a little more than that though. I know I said 'quick thoughts' but don't worry, not that quick!

It's not often that you'll see me go to the cinema these days, I'll happily wait for most stuff to make its way onto Prime now, but there are definitely exceptions to the rule (and Catford Mews cinema is nice and cheap). 'Terrifier 3' is one them. I've been looking forward to this movie, ever since the end of 'Terrifier 2', so bear that in mind as you read on...

Five years after Art the Clown's Halloween massacre, Sienna and her brother struggle to rebuild their shattered lives. As the holiday season approaches, they try to embrace the Christmas spirit and leave the horrors of the past behind. That's easier said than done though, Art the Clown has returned to Miles County and he has brought a friend with him. They are coming for Sienna but they're more than happy to take a detour for a killing spree first...

Should you go and see 'Terrifier 3'? If you've already seen 'Terrifier' and 'Terrifier 2' then you've probably already seen it or are planning too, so forget I asked ;o) Leone pushes things further this time (more on that later) but you're prepared for that because you saw the preceding two movies. For everyone else... If you enjoy movies that really want to push the limits of gore on the big screen, you should go and see 'Terrifier 3', that's kind of the whole point of it. If you don't, then don't ;o)

In terms of the gore though, it is worth pointing out that this is the first movie, in the series, where Art kills children. You'll see the aftermath, but not the execution of the execution (see what I did there?), so do bear that in mind before you go. It can be difficult to watch but again, that's kind of the whole point of 'Terrifier 3'. Leone doesn't take that final step (I'm glad to say) but he is uncompromising in terms of what he puts on the screen for us to experience. The rest of it though, was awesome from where I was sat. There are many ways to die and Art is determined to get as many people as possible to experience them. Highlights include the chainsaw (I knew you could do that with a chainsaw, I just never expected to see it on the screen...) and the liquid nitrogen (don't watch if you still believe in Father Christmas) but there are loads more examples, all lined up and waiting.

'Terrifier 3' isn't just the gore though. I always thought that 'Terrifier 2' was a big improvement on 'Terrifier', purely because there was an actual plot and that upward trajectory continues in 'Terrifier 3'. Admittedly, the plot is still thin but it's there and we're also seeing real character development in Sienna and Jonathan in particular. There is more of a point to it all now and that really shines through.

And Art the Clown... He is brilliant once again, all credit to David Howard Thornton for fleshing Art out and making him a character of pure evil but with this childlike wonder of Christmas, all without saying a word. Art is funny one second (watching him react to Mia and Cole's conversation is hilarious) and in the blink of an eye is suddenly wreaking havoc on the body of some poor unsuspecting passerby. You can't take your eyes off him, I couldn't.

Worth a look for Halloween... And then worth another look at Christmas time ;o) Either way, give it a watch if you're happy with your stomach being turned.
