Movie Night! ‘More Adventures in Cat-Sitting/Catching up with the MCU’ Edition
Sorry it has been quiet here these past couple of days… I’ll be honest, the mixture of medication that I’m on (and the heat) left me absolutely shattered and in no fit state for work, or blogging. So, I did neither :o) Took a couple of days off sick (back into work on Monday) and didn’t even think about blogging. I have been up to other things, mostly cat-sitting (the girls and my ex-partner are away) and all the ‘fun’ that entails – no pun intended ;o) At the time of writing, the cat ‘most likely to do a runner’ is snoozing on a chair; the cat ‘most likely to snooze on a chair’ legged it after dinner and hasn’t been seen since. I’ve got another week of this :o)
What I also have though is access to my ex-partner’s Disney+ account and I’ll be using it, over the week, to catch up on, well… I don’t know :o) Any recommendations? I do know that I am way behind with my ‘MCU watching’ so yesterday, I figured I’d put a little dent in that list and...
‘Thunderbolts*’ (2025)
When a group of special operatives find themselves on the the wrong end of a clean up operation, they must escape a death trap before they can even figure out what to do next. What they bring out with them though, is far more dangerous than what they just escaped. Who, and what, is Bob…?
Is there an MCU film that, at its core, isn’t about the importance of family (‘found’ or otherwise)? I don’t have a problem with it, it’s the whole point of several of my favourites, but when the whole point of this movie is that it’s all about ‘B and C Listers’ finding each other, I had a harder job caring than I thought I would. When you’ve ‘cleared the decks’ of all the characters that people were invested in (apart from Spiderman), it’s going to take a while to build that connection up again. I’ll be honest, I struggled with it and if it hadn’t been for a bit of a star turn from the Red Guardian…
Luckily, we have the ‘Question of Bob’ to keep us engaged, along with a whole load of ensuing fights/car chases etc, and the state I’ve been in, that was all I needed to keep me going :o) By the end, I was left with a movie that maybe wasn’t quite as impactful as it wanted to be but has definitely given us some ‘New Avengers’ (or ‘Thunderbolts’, erm… either way) and was fun to watch. And the obligatory mid-credits scenes gave us…
‘The Fantastic Four: First Steps’ (2025)
I’m not going to do the ‘first paragraph blurb’ here because it all boils down to introducung us to the ‘Fantastic Four’ and then setting them against Galactus and the Silver Surfer. That’s it, that’s the whole plot :o)
And for the most part, it worked pretty well from where I was sat (a fairly comfy chair, not ‘my comfy chair’ though…) I think the fairest thing to say is that what you get out of it will depend on how much of a fan you are of the comic. I enjoyed some of the hints at early stories but I’ve never really followed the comic enough to get loads out of the family dynamic. I love the Silver Surfer though so that was cool and seeing Galactus fight the Fantastic Four/smash up retro-futuristic Manhattan was always going to be awesome.
‘First Steps’ wasn’t a bad movie, certainly a real statement of intent from Marvel (having finally got their ‘First Family’ back) and fun. Maybe one for the fans though and that’s fine :o)
But yep, any other recommendations for stuff to watch on Disney+? Leave a comment, otherwise I’ll probably end up rewatching ‘The Strain’ ;o)

I figured things were going tough for you when I didn't see posts for a couple of days.
ReplyDeleteSadly, I have zero recommendations for disney+. Whenever something goes on that, I know its outside of my ability to watch and so I totally dismiss it from my mind. so I don't even know what I don't know :-D
It hasn't been a great few days but I did the right thing by taking a little break before it ended up being a longer one ;o)
DeleteI know there's Star Wars and MCU on Disney+ but that's about it. Should keep me going for a few days :o)
