Movie Night! 'Almost Forgot To Add A Title Here' Edition...
I really almost did... :o)
In the meantime? I’ve had better luck staying awake for movies over the last week (although I still managed to sleep through a good chunk of ‘Shin Godzilla’, dammit) so let me quickly tell you about some of those…
‘Rammbock: Berlin Undead’ (2010)
For better or worse, I’ve never been what you’d call an ambitious man but I do have things that I want to do, one of those being to watch as many zombie movies as I possibly can. Not your ‘standard ambition’ but it gets me through the day ;o)
Anyway… ‘Rammbock’ is a zombie movie that I seemed to keep finding in various ‘zombie movies you should watch’ YouTube videos but never managed to track down the film itself. That changed the other day when it suddenly appeared on Prime video…
Is there anything worse than an awkward visit to your ex-girlfriends place? I’m struggling to think of anything but timing that visit with the outbreak of a ‘Rage Virus’ certainly doesn’t make things any better…
‘Rammbock’ is a mixture of ‘28 Days Later’ and ‘Shaun of the Dead’ (minus the humour) and the short run time (63 minutes) keeps things tightly focused. There isn’t a lot of time for character development but there is plenty of time for problems to surface and have to be dealt with. As a result, I didn’t really engage with any of the characters but I was more than happy to follow their journey. Not a bad way to spend an hour and a (tiny) bit.
‘They will kill you’ (2026)
One ex-convict versus an apartment block full of Satanists who just won’t die…
Not a bad movie, there was certainly enough gore and laughs to keep me happy and engaged (I don’t ask for a lot). But again, the plot was pretty lightweight, from where I was sat, and so were the cast (although Zazie Beetz was awesome as ever). So as good as it all looked, and it really did, ‘They will kill you’ didn’t have a lot of heart to back that up. I reckon it would make a great video game though.
‘Candy Corn’ (2019)
Halloween is the time when the bullies come for Jacob but, this time, they’ve taken it too far. Jacob was dead, maybe he still is… All he knows is that now, he has a chance for revenge…
Another film where I’d seen the kills play out on YouTube and thought that I should give the film a go. I really should have stayed on YouTube… In the words of Deadpool, ‘Candy Corn’ was the dictionary definition ‘lazy writing’ with a group of kids set up to die at the hands of Jacob. No plot at all this time, just a series of deaths with candy corn scattered over the remains. And I’m not sure I can forgive the movie for having Tony Todd right there but not making use of him at all, a weird choice…
Oh well, you’ll never know if a film is any good if you don’t give it a chance first.
