More Movies...

Last night, I turned off my work laptop and settled down in my chair, ready to get stuck into ‘Old Moon Quarterly Vol. 8’ and… The next thing I knew, I’d woken up and it was far too late to read anything, let alone post about it here. I should clarify, it wasn’t ‘Old Moon Quarterly’ that sent me to sleep, it had just been a really long day. I’m getting old...

Luckily for today’s post, I’ve got a few more movies under my belt and they weren’t bad ones either. That made for a nice change ;o)

‘Dark Match’ (2024)

A small time wrestling company accepts a well paying gig in a backwoods town, only to find that they’ve been hired by a mysterious cult leader with his own plans for their match…

The other night, I was having one of those evenings where I really wanted to watch something but it was taking far too long to make my mind up so… I figured I’d give ‘Dark Match’ a go, otherwise I’d watch nothing at all. And… A few days later, I’m still not a hundred percent sure what the point of it was but the energy it had (especially in the fight scenes) made up for a hell of a lot and I’ll give any movie a lot of leeway if it has Steven Ogg looking all manic and like he’s about to tear your face off at any second. I had a lot of fun here :o)

‘Return of the Living Dead 2’ (1988)

Just when you think all the Trioxin is safely under lock and key, a couple of barrels of the stuff inevitably turn up near a graveyard and…

Whenever I fancy a little ‘Return of the Living Dead’, I inevitably go straight to the source and forget all the sequels. It’s easily done but this time round, I figured I’d try the sequel :o) I’ll be honest, it’s more or less the same as ‘Return of the Living Dead’ but that’s ok, if it ain’t broke and all that ;o) ‘Return of the Living Dead’ was not only great fun but also self-aware enough to poke fun at itself at the same time. At least, I think that’s why there was a zombie that looked suspiciously like Michael Jackson...

‘Cold Storage’ (2026)

A highly dangerous fungus has just escaped from a secret laboratory and it’s down to a semi-retired bioterrorism agent, and a couple of storage workers, to make sure that the threat is contained at source. They’re about to find out though, if something can go wrong… It will.

I’ve been banging on about ‘Cold Storage’ for a little while so I couldn’t very well not give it a look :o) I’m very partial to ‘spore’ movies and ‘Cold Storage’ didn’t disappoint with a good mixture of humour and body horror that held my interest the whole way through.

‘Whistle’ (2025)

A group of high school students stumble upon an ancient Aztec Death Whistle and if that wasn’t bad enough, one of them decides to blow it… Now they must find a way out before their future death becomes the present…

So, very much like ‘Final Destination’ then but without the build up; death is inevitable and so is the manner in which you check out. Luckily for me, I enjoy the ‘Final Destination’ movies and ‘Whistle’ was different enough for me not to feel like I was watching ‘Final Destination’ all over again. Yep, ‘Whistle’ did fall a little foul of being another ‘line teenagers up and kill em’ off’ conveyor belt affair but a chilling lead up to some particularly nasty deaths can make up for an awful lot from where I’m sat ;o)
