Movie Night! ‘Cinderella Double-Bill’ Edition
I managed to get a fair bit read this last week, mostly related to the last couple of books of the ‘Siege of Terra’ series. Yep, I’m reading ‘Era of Ruin’ now but that’s just mopping up the last little bits of story; the main feature is well and truly done now (I still have some gaps to fill in but, you know what I mean) and even though I knew the broad strokes of the tale, I’m not quite sure how I feel about the whole thing. I’ll see if I can get my thoughts in order for a post tomorrow.
In the meantime, this has also been a week of watching movies (sick-leave is doing me so much good…) and that’s what I’m here to talk about right now. I’m hoping the title of the post has you a little intrigued but, I’m going to start with something completely different ;o)
‘Cinderella’s Curse’ (2024)
Any re-telling of ‘Cinderella’ that incorporates a large chunk of ‘Carrie’, along with a little ‘Evil Dead’ action, will automatically get my attention and a little respect as well. ‘Cinderella’s Curse’ may well be my new favourite B-Movie, leaning heavily into the aforementioned movies and coming up with a decent slasher horror as a result. I’m not a hundred percent sold on the ending but the journey up to it was more than worth it. Not necessarily a movie that I’d see at the cinema but definitely a movie that I’d watch at the end of a long day, just for the hell of it (which goes for the following movie too...)
‘Cinderella’s Revenge’ (2024)
This is a slightly less manic retelling of the fairy tale, at least as far as the blood and guts go, and a little more willing to play it for laughs. Still a lot of fun though and another solid slasher movie.
‘The Demented’ (2013)
Six college friends get together for the weekend, only to find themselves fighting for their lives after a terrorist attack turns the locals into rage infused zombies.
You know me, I will never say no to a zombie movie and when I came across ‘The Demented’, well… It was a zombie movie that I’d never see so of course I watched it. And…
It was pretty shocking (and not in the good way), I’ll be honest. Six leads, ranging from non-existent to just plain unbearable, run from zombies and then run some more. Every so often, one will trip and the inevitable happens. And I’ve never seen a ‘twist’ ending botched so badly. One day, I’ll list my favourite zombie movies, ‘The Demented’ will not be on that list.

This last week, I watched…
Apparently, ‘Scream 7’ isn’t too far away so I thought that this last week was as good a time as any to have go through the franchise again, ‘Scream 6’ being a first time viewing.
I’m lumping all the ‘Scream’ films together here because, well… They’re a lot of fun (and continue to be) but they all run along the same lines, don’t they? There’s a masked killer, some brilliant kills, a little detective work and always something to say about the state of horror movies. I’m not going to have a paragraph for each movie where I essentially say the same thing each time :o)
What I will say is that I found the whole lot to be just as watchable as they’ve ever been (albeit ‘Scream 4’ being a little bit of a let-down with its villain reveal) and this was clear in just how easy it was to finish one movie and go straight to the next one. I should have done this over Halloween, never mind…
‘Scream 6’ was good fun too, really enjoyed the twist/villain reveal at the end.
