‘Words of War: The Miniature Book of Space Marine Quotes’ (DK)
Page Count: 64 Pages
“We have been wounded sorely. Yet still we stand, with fire in our eyes and valour in our hearts. Let them think us beaten. We shall teach them otherwise.” – Pedro Kantor, Chapter Master of the Crimson Fists
The galaxy of the 41st Millennium is beset by war. Within this grim, dark future, Humanity’s greatest defence are the Adeptus Astartes – brutal gene-forged warriors – whose actions turn the tide of war zones, and whose voices echo across the clamour of battle. Their words lay bare what it is to be an Angel of Death: courageous acts of valour, bonds of brotherhood, unrelenting hatred, and violent intent.
Within these pages you will find all this and more manifest in the quotes of legendary Space Marines.
Whether you think the Adeptus Astartes are the noble defenders of humanity or genocidal gene-forged monsters (I’m firmly sat on the fence here, I think it’s possible to be both in this instance), they really are the only thing standing between humanity and its extinction at the hands of, well… everything else in the Warhammer 40K setting. And they do it in some style, given the quotes inside the book and the accompanying photo-illustrations.
Lets be clear though, this is a book that you’ll only want to pick up if you’re a fan of Warhammer 40K. ‘Words of War’ is far too slight to be engaging to the casual reader and without the context behind the quotes, isn’t going to make a lot of sense either.
I’m a fan of the setting and lore though so ‘Words of War’ worked for me as a half hour spent absorbing quotes and being quietly envious of the paint-work in the illustrations. I really wish I could paint like that… Anyway :o) Like I said, it’s a tiny book so there’s not really anything else I can add to that. It's stirring stuff though.
‘Words of War’ took me back to simpler times where the closest I could get to the setting was to pick out random quotes from my mates ‘White Dwarf’ magazines. If that’s you too, ‘Words of War’ might be worth a look.
And my favourite quote from ‘Words of War’? Attributed to Captain Alessio Cortez of the Crimson Fists…
“I haven’t lost an arm brother. It’s right over there."
You’re welcome ;o)
Hahahaha! I am laughing because I am firmly in the camp that the Space Marines are the worst thing to ever happen to humanity. I'd rather see humanity go extinct than to become what they have. Oh well, wouldn't be many stories otherwise :-D
ReplyDeletehave a good week....
That's the thing though... If humanity didn't become what it is in the setting, there'd be no point to the setting. I think... I'm just here for the stories really ;o)
DeleteHope you have a good one too!
