More Movies That I've Been Watching

My ability to focus on written words continues to drift in and out of... erm… focus, so I’ve been watching a lot more movies just recently. And here is where we catch up on a few of those movies, funnily enough while I try and figure out what book I’m reading next ;o)

As always, ‘movies of varying quality’ is the order of the day so, lets have a little chat about what I’ve been watching.

‘The Long Walk’ (2025)

In a near future America, fifty young men must compete for a huge cash prize (and one wish granted) by walking, across the country, until one person is left standing. But once you start walking, there is only one way you can drop out, and it’s permanent.

I’ve got nothing against older Stephen King adaptations (ok, maybe ‘The Tommyknockers’) but I’m currently living in a golden age of Stephen King adaptations that are consistently great (ok, not the TV show of ‘The Mist’…); and I think that ‘The Long Walk’ might well be the best of them.

I absolutely couldn’t take my eyes off this movie. ‘The Long Walk’ is one of the bleakest things you’ll ever see but heart warming all at the same time. And the ending totally threw me.

I don’t want to say too much here, just in case you haven’t seen ‘The Long Walk’ but it really is worth the watch if you haven’t seen it already (and I am historically the last person to any party…)

‘’Black Sheep’ (2006)

Experiments with genetic engineering turn sheep into flesh eating killers on a New Zealand farm.

It had been a tough few days so I needed something to make me laugh and ‘Black Sheep’ did its job as normal. Yep, this was a rewatch :o)

‘Black Sheep; can drag a little, at times, but when it concentrates on the utter daftness of flesh eating sheep, it’s absolutely hilarious and gory too. Just what I needed.

‘Death Proof’ (2007)

A psychotic stuntman stalks women, in his car, and kills them. Until one day, he chooses the wrong women to stalk…

I’ve seen ‘Planet Terror’ and figured it was time to finally give ‘Death Proof’ a shot. And… While the car chase scenes were awesome, there was nothing to the rest of the film, just a lot of meandering dialogue. And maybe that’s the point but it didn’t work for me. At least I can say I’ve watched it now.

‘Lake Placid’ (1999)

There’s a giant crocodile, under the waters of Lake Black, and it’s hungry… Local police and Fish & Game must team up to either capture the crocodile, or kill it.

I’ve seen all the other ‘Lake Placid’ movies a number of times but it has been years since I watched the original, long enough that it felt a like a first time viewing when I saw it the other day. And…

I’ve got to admit, I still prefer the sequels but I’ve still got a lot of time for the ‘gentle humour followed by intense crocodile attacks’ of the original. It was fun going back to the source and seeing how it all began.
