Books for the TBR Pile... 'A lot of walking (for me)' Edition
As always, the plan is to keep working my way through all the unread books in my flat before buying any more. But... I end up doing things like spending the afternoon in London and diving into bookshops that I've never been in before (well, a couple that I hadn't and a couple that I definitely have...) It was kind of inevitable that I'd come home with a few books by the end of the day.
I dropped my daughter off, at the train station, and once she had left, I swiftly realized that I wasn't ready to go home just yet. So... There's a bookshop called Skoob Books that I'd never been in but heard was worth a look, I decided to set out and see if I could find it. After a fair bit of walking (for me anyway), I finally found the shop and... Skoob Books looks amazing, literally a huge basement full of shelving that is all full of books; the kind of place where I could browse for hours, even on the shelves that I'm normally not that bothered about. The sci-fi/fantasy shelves weren't up to much though so I walked out empty-handed. That's the way the hunt can go and there were other bookshops nearby so...
The Gower Street Waterstones is a little out of my way, normally, but it was 'on my way' yesterday so in I went and... I loved it :o) Gower Street isn't your regular Waterstones; it's full of floors and little rooms that lead to other little rooms, all stacked with books :o) It's not just new books either, Gower Street has a nice little line going in remaindered books as well as second hand books too. I won't lie, I totally got lost trying to find the toilet (hint: there is always a little further to walk, don't trust the sign...) but I had fun browsing shelves on the way.
It was quite funny then that I only came away with 'Dominion Genesis'; it wasn't proving to be a great day for the hunt but it was already a great day for wandering around cool book shops ;o)
Forbidden Planet was on the way, back to the station, and I found a copy of 'Morvenn Vahl: Spear of Saints' which started to balance things out a bit. I haven't read a bad book by Jude Reid so I have high hopes for this ;o)
And then...
Marchpane Books was also on the way back, to the station, so I had to pop back in and take another look at the shelf full of 'Doctor Who' Target novelizations. Turns out that I also 'had' to spill a whole load of the shelf's contents all over the floor. Typical... :o(
The titles speak for themselves although looking at them, I have a horrible feeling that I already have a copy of 'The Planet of the Spiders'... Oh well :o) I've just had a week of reading old 'Doctor Who' books and I'm not in a mad rush to keep going with that, they will definitely feature though.
And that's your lot for this week; a short, sweet but ultimately satisfying set of additions to the TBR pile Anything here catch your eye? Leave a comment and let me know ;o)
