A Quick Movie Post

I’m having a tooth out tomorrow so don’t be too surprised if you don’t see anything posted here; I’ve blocked some time out especially for the purpose of feeling all sorry for myself ;o)

In the meantime… I’ve spent the weekend trying to work my way through ‘The End and the Death: Volume 1’ and catching up with a few movies. One of these activities was way more successful than the other… Yep, ‘The End and the Death’ has a lot to like about it but has to be one of the most unwieldy books I’ve read in a long time (and there are two more books to follow…) More on that when I finally finish it. For now, lets have a quick chat about a couple of movies that I finally got round to watching this weekend.

‘All Hallows Eve 2’ (2015)

A woman is stalked by a mysterious figure, wearing a Jack o’ Lantern mask, who leaves a VHS tape on her doorstep. Does she…

A) Lock all the doors and windows, call the police and put the tape to one side as evidence?

B) Settle down, with a large glass of red wine, and stick the tape in the VCR?

You guessed it ;o)

I watched ‘All Hallows Eve’, the other day, so when ‘All Hallows Eve 2’ appeared on Prime, I had to give it a go and… About halfway through, I realised that I’d already watched it, a while ago, which says a lot about how memorable I found the first viewing ;o) And the second viewing left me feeling the same way.

I say this all the time but I know you’re never going to get a series of ‘hits’ with any horror anthology, personal taste and all that. Here though, the ratio of ‘misses’ to ‘hits’ was far too big here and there was no ‘Art the Clown’, this time, to hold the whole thing together. All we get is a person in a pumpkin mask who is meant to be ominous but isn’t on screen enough for that.

‘The Offering’, ‘The Last Halloween’ and ‘A Boys Life’ were worth a look so it wasn’t time entirely wasted. Couldn’t really tell you much about the others though and that kind of says it all.

‘V/H/S/Halloween’ (2025)

‘V/H/S/Halloween’ actually arrived, on Shudder, last Friday but it has taken me a couple of days to finally find a bit of time to watch it. And… What I always say about horror anthologies still counts but there is a lot more consistency here, possibly more than I’ve seen in a ‘V/H/S’ movie for a while. ‘V/H/S/2’ is still my favourite instalment (at least at the moment) but ‘Halloween’ isn’t that far behind with a nice mixture of jump scares and gross-outs. Just what this Graeme needed :o)

Favourite story? Honestly, they’re all worth a look but ‘Fun Size’, ‘Kid Print’ and ‘Home Haunt’ were the standouts for me. ‘Home Haunt’, in particular, really captured what ‘V/H/S’ is all about for me. Mad, frantic horror where anyone can quite literally lose their face :o)
