Books for the TBR Pile, 'It was inevitable...' Edition
I've got no idea what this weeks reading is going to look like; I can't seem to settle on one book so it's looking like a mixture of comics and short stories. We'll see, I'm still on sick leave so I've got plenty of time to decide :o)
Instead of a WBR Pile ('Will Be Reading' of course) then, I thought I'd share a quick picture of the books that have somehow found their way home with me over the last week. Because books inevitably happen when I have too much time on my hands (although having said that, books have also been known to also happen when I have very little time on my hands as well...) Here goes,
'Any Amount of Books', on the Charing Cross Road, is always a decent second hand bookshop to pop into if you have time to spare. That's what I did on Saturday and that's where I found 'Autumn: The City'. It's been long enough, since I last read 'The City', that not only have I more or less forgotten the plot. I also no longer have a copy. I'll never say no to a zombie book so... I didn't ;o)
And then it was into Forbidden Planet where I found copies of the 'Toxic Avenger' movie novelization and Stephen King's 'The Long Walk'. I'm after a fun read and 'Toxic Avenger' looks like it will fit the bill (I've seen the original movie, I'm sure I'll watch the remake as well). I'm struggling to focus on larger books so thought I'd tackle 'The Long Walk' on its own rather than as part of 'The Bachman Books' collection. And that's why I found a copy of 'The Running Man' as well (not in Forbidden Planet though).
I'll be honest... I had the 'Ciaphas Cain' anthology on pre-order and completely forgotten about it; that was a nice surprise :o)
We have to go back to Thursday of last week (possibly Friday, I'm not sure) for the last two books. I'd managed to drag myself out of the comfy chair and headed to Bromley for a look in the Warhammer shop and a bite to eat. 'Assassinorum: Kingmaker' is a book that I've been meaning to pick up, but never quite managed, so made sure I grabbed it when perusing the shelves in the Warhammer shop.
I was pretty intrigued by the blurb for 'We Used To Live Here' so that's been on my Amazon Wishlist for a while. And then I saw a copy, in the Bromley Waterstones, and I had some 'money off' on my card so... here we are :o)
Anything here catch your eye?
Ahhhh, good old Ciaphas. I enjoyed that series quite a bit. Have you read the main series?
ReplyDeleteI read a couple of them, years ago, and have the 'Hero of the Imperium' collection sat on a shelf; I thought some short stories might be a good place to start this time round so, here we are :o)
