Return of the 'Random Book Pile'...

At the time of writing, it's about 3am and I am wide awake... It's not that I can't go sleep, I'm great at going to sleep, I just can't seem to get the timing right :o( Oh well, at least it's the weekend and all I've got to do is stay awake for when my daughters visit. The rest of my time is my own ;o)

You wouldn't believe it but I'm really trying not to buy so many books at the moment (turns out that 'limited space' really is a thing...) but things happen and... I suddenly have extra books in the house. Here's what ended up at mine over the last few days (with bonus 'what I'm currently reading') and while I need to work on my restraint at little more, it could have been a lot worse... ;o)


There's a free micro-library near my youngest's school so after I drop her off, I always pay it a visit on the way back; it would be rude not to ;o) What I love about 'Free Libraries' is that you never knew what you are going to find on any given day, last Tuesday was a real bonus then as there were a handful of David Gemmell books and I was finally able to pick up a copy of 'Ghost King', a book that I've never read (although I have read the sequel, 'Last Sword of Power'). Not sure when I'll get to it, hopefully soon.

Thursday was a busy one and also really stressful in places so, once I'd got certain things done and dusted, I took myself to Greenwich for a coffee and a look through a couple of bookshops. Oxfam didn't have anything for me this time (three quarters of the books there were ones that I had donated...) but Waterstones was a little better. 'Anji Kills A King' sounds like a fun slice of fantasy, and just the kind of thing I'm after, while 'Nordic Visions' promises a mix of intriguing Nordic fantasy and horror (sci-fi too but I'm really here for the first two).

And 'Island of the Dead' is a book that's spent too long unread and finally gets its time in the sun. It's looking good so far ;o)

It’s Friday so you’d normally be looking at a post on whatever I read, on the bus to/from work, yesterday. ‘Hellraiser 3: Hell on Earth’ (1992)

Every time Halloween comes round, I promise myself that I’ll watch more horror films and read more horror fiction; we’re halfway through the month and you can see how that’s going so far… There’s still plenty of October left though so lets see how I do from now until the end of the month ;o) First up is ‘Hellraiser 3’ which I watched last night, mostly because I love it (you can tell how this post is going to go, sorry…) but also because it was cheap on Prime and I’m still just on the wrong side of payday. 'Conan the Barbarian: Battle of the Black Stone’ – Zub, Scharf, Canola (Titan Comics, Heroic Signatures)

It’s starting to look like this could be the week where I make a half decent dent in my ‘Comics TBR Pile’, lets see how we do... I’ve really been struggling with the ‘Savage Sword of Conan’ collection just recently (more than one reason but I want to finish the collection first before I talk about it) and I thought that I’d have to take a little step back from ‘Conan’ comics and come back when I was in a better mood for it. Until I realized that there was another ‘Conan’ comic lurking in the TBR pile and maybe I could give that a go instead. So that’s what I did. I’ve caught little glimpses of the ‘Black Stone’ storyline, in other ‘Conan’ comics, but I can’t help but feel that the event has kind of passed me by a little. That’s on me though to be fair, I’ve got the attention span of a goldfish right now and there are so many books that I just haven’t been able to focus on; I suspect a couple of them talk about a Black Stone… Oh well, I’m here now.
