Movie Night! 'Just Horribly Tired...' Edition

I've been absolutely shattered this last week (what with one thing and then, several other things all queued up behind the first thing) so haven't been much good, in the evenings, for much more than reading books and watching movies. Which funnily enough, is also exactly what I do when I'm in the mood to be a little busier... I am nothing if not consistent ;o)

Anyway... I've spent the last week telling you about what I've been reading. Lets round the week off by looking at what I've been watching. And there haven't been many films this week so this won't be a long post ;o) Here goes...

'Flight 7500' (2014)

Flight 7500 departs LA Airport bound for Tokyo. As the flight progresses, passengers and crew slowly realize that they are under attack by a supernatural force and there is every chance now that they won't make it to Tokyo at all...

I've got into the habit of having the TV on for a bit of background noise while I'm reading, working or whatever really. 'Flight 7500' was going to be a 'background movie' but there was enough about the plot to pique my interest and upgrade it to a film that I had to pay a little more attention to. Unfortunately, some uninspired characterization pushed this film into the background again. I liked the 'big' reveal but the cast were a little too bland to really carry it or even react to it effectively. Oh well, I've seen worse :o)

'Superhost' (2021)

With their audience shrinking, travel vloggers Teddy and Claire pivot to creating content around their AirBnB 'Superhost' Rebecca, who will do anything for a great review, even... kill?

'Superhost' is cheap and cheerful and doesn't do anything new with its tale of an unhinged and murderous host. Where it really won through for me though was Gracie Gillam's performance as Rebecca, sending the character into realms of 'cartoon evil' hitherto unseen but just creepy and unhinged enough to keep it interesting. Teddy and Claire make some ridiculous decisions but watching Rebecca take advantage of these ended up being great fun to watch.

'Some Kind Of Hate' (2015)

A bullied teenager is sent to a wilderness retreat where he accidentally summons the spirit of a bullied girl who is only too happy to take revenge on his tormentors, and hers...

What initially looked like standard slasher fare became a little more with an interesting twist on how the deaths are dealt out and a journey for the final girl that I never saw coming. I'm not sure I'd watch it again but there are worse ways to spend 84 minutes.

And before I finish this post... An honourable mention for 'Last Girl Standing'; an exploration of 'The Final Girl' that's so relentlessly bleak that I had to stop half way through. Fair play to the movie for trying something different but my mental health is a tad fragile right now and I need to look after it. I will finish 'Last Girl Standing' off though, just not for a while ;o)

  1. I hear you about being horribly tired. I took a sleeping pill last night and was fast asleep by 7pm last night. Didn't wake up until 7:30am this morning. I hate doing that, but man, sometimes I just need it.

    1. I really hope it helped! That's the main thing, sometimes you just have to do it.
