Movie Time Again...
The days are pretty much relentless at the moment, what with one thing and another (and then another, and then yet another), damnit. Nothing this blogger can't handle, there's just an awful lot of it and I'm really tired (which, funnily enough, is one of the 'things' I'm having trouble with)... Typical really ;o) Oh well, just a couple of days and it's the weekend.
I haven't been good for much, in the evenings so, while I have read a couple of books, it has been mostly about the movies again. I'm cool with that, so long as the movies are half decent ;o) Most of them were half decent, not all of them though...
'Bait 3D' (2012)
A freak tsunami traps a group of people in a submerged grocery store. Not only do they need to escape the rising water level, they must also contend with the two Great White Sharks that are trapped in there with them...
A little bit of a cheat as I've seen this movie a few times and knew exactly what I would be getting into. There isn't quite enough plot for the movie's runtime (which is slightly concerning as 'Bait' is only just over an hour and a half) but the trap our leads find themselves in is interesting enough to keep the stakes high and things ticking along. That and you also have some decent 'shark jump scares', can't complain about that ;o)
'The Carrier' (2015)
As an antibiotic resistant pandemic ravages the planet, the only safe place is in the air. But every plane has to land some time...
There is nothing quite as bleak as a British made 'Pandemic' movie and while 'The Carrier' shows its budget (not an awful lot), it can hold its head high amongst more illustrious company. It doesn't pull any punches in how it portrays societal breakdown or in its exploration of what this does to the main players. I wasn't expecting much but I ended up getting a lot more out of 'The Carrier' than I thought I would.
'Flight to Hell' (2003)
A flying casino becomes a deathtrap as a mysterious cloud slowly turns the passengers into ravenous monsters...
I don't normally go for spoilers here but I felt nothing but relief when the main character woke up and realised it was all a dream. It meant that the movie was almost over :o) Sometimes I'm too stubborn for my own good, I shouldn't have sat through this, I could have done literally anything else and been better for it.
'The Andy Baker Tape' (2021)
The last known footage of food blogger Jeff Blake and his half-brother Andy Baker...
I normally stay well clear of 'found footage' movies as by their nature, they give the game away before the film gets a chance to start. Having watched 'The Andy Baker Tape', I've realised that I've totally missed the point; it's all about the journey, not the ultimate destination. 'The Andy Baker Tape' is very well done with a whole load of questions raised that keep the plot ticking over, moving at just the right speed, and two leads that deliver performances that hold the whole thing together. I might just have to start watching more 'found footage' movies now.
'Demons' (1985)
A group of random people are invited to a screening of a mysterious movie, only to find themselves trapped in the cinema and stalked by ravenous demons.
Maybe I should have watched this before I watched 'Demons 2' last month, but I'm well known for doing things the wrong way round ;o) I don't think it matters too much actually, not with this movie. It's an hour and a half of people dribbling green slime and biting other people, injected with a whole dose of manic energy that I was really on board with. It did this so well that the plot didn't really matter, which was good as there wasn't really a plot to speak of, just what I needed after a long day ;o)
