Even More Movies That I've Been Watching...

Because that's all I've really been good for just recently. Like I said yesterday, the new medication is giving me a bit of a kicking and there are some other things going on as well. It's all a little much so as much as I want to be reading books at the moment, all I can do after work is stick the TV on and try and make a dent in my watchlist(s) instead. I will try and get something bookish posted, there are books here and there that I have finished but not written about, but for now, lets take a look at some of those movies...

'Werewolves' (2024)

One year ago, a supermoon event triggered a global outbreak, transforming anyone exposed to moonlight into bloodthirsty werewolves. A year has passed and another supermoon looms; while scientists work on a possible cure, the rest of the world is left to try and make it through the night...

'Werewolves' is more action than horror (despite what Prime Video might say) and you know what? When you're in a headspace like mine, a 'big, dumb werewolf movie' is just what the doctor ordered. There's no real plot to speak of but the stakes are still high and there's plenty of werewolf action; sometimes all a movie needs is to just see if its cast makes it through the night. Well played 'Werewolves', well played :o)

'Nightbreed' (1990)

Boone can't remember killing all those people but he did, didn't he...? The only place of refuge left (from the police, a serial killer and possibly himself...) is the semi-mythical Midian, where the last of the Elder Races hide from their human hunters. Will Boone be their saviour or herald their final destruction?

Now here's a film that I've been meaning to watch for years. I bought the book the other day so figured it was finally time to give the film a shot and... I really got into it and I think it's a shame that it was clearly set up for a sequel (sequels?) that never happened. I particularly liked the imagination at play in populating the world Midian, 'Nightbreed' looks amazing. And Decker too, he is just vicious. Having said that, the version that I watched felt like there were moments taken out that would have helped the plot run a little more smoothly than it did. Not the easiest film to watch then, as far as that went, but I'm seriously interested in watching a Directors Cut now.

'Arena Wars' (2024)

The year is 2045 and prisoners fight for their freedom in Arena Wars, facing seven deadly adversaries through a gauntlet of lethal challenges.

I've often seen films described as 'incoherent' and 'Arena Wars' can hold its head up in that company. Again, it was just the kind of movie that I needed (all volume and no content) but 'Arena Wars' made it difficult for me to like it at times, with stuff being hinted at, or just dumped on you, but no real plot to back it up. Oh well, I guess that's what happens when you blow nearly all the budget on having Michael Madsen in your movie and don't leave enough for the writers.
