Books for the TBR Pile... 'Probably the last post for a little while' Edition

Like the title says, this will probably be the last post for a while. Tomorrow, I'm off to hospital for a spot of surgery; nothing serious (it just really, really needs to be done) but it's going to take a couple of weeks off work to get over and I'll don't think I'll be in any mood to blog during that time. I'm sure I'll pop my head round the door on Bluesky, I'll just be reading books rather than writing about them ;o) And I've got loads to keep me going, including the following ones that I've picked up over the last week...

I read the original Frank Herbert books, years ago, and never felt the urge to go back, let alone read the ones written by his son and Kevin J. Anderson (are they any good?), even though I still have a couple lurking on my shelves. That was until I saw this copy of 'Dune Messiah' on the shelf in Greenwich Oxfam and the cover not only really caught my eye but also gave me no option but to buy it. I should read 'Dune' first but 'Dune Messiah' is only a couple of hundred pages long so it will be read soon, at some point anyway ;o)

And 'Doctor Who and the Zarbi'... I came unstuck trying to watch the TV serial, years ago, but I loved the book as a kid, even more years ago now, and figured it was past time I had another copy. One trip to Amazon later and, here we are :o) Not sure exactly when I'll get to it but 'Doctor Who' books are usually a quick read so I wouldn't be too surprised to see this one feature soon.

I loved reading the 'Joe Pitt' series, way back in the day, and saw these two books on the shelf (Greenwich Oxfam again) as I was looking for something to keep me entertained while I'm on sick leave. I saw them, I bought them, it was that simple ;o) I think these are the first two books (it has been a while) so I'd say you're likely to see reviews up when things kick off again.

And 'Conan' pretty much speaks for himself ;o) When I pack my bag for the hospital, 'The Age Unconquered' will be one of the books that comes with me, that's all there is to it. You might have to wait a little while for the review though.

And that's your lot, for now anyway. I'll see you on the other side, or sooner if I get bored ;o)

  1. I would highly recommend re-reading Dune before diving into Children of Dune. It's a direct sequel and you need to know/remember what happened in Dune for it to make sense.

Best of luck in the hospital!

    1. That's the plan, I've got a few books that I want to read first (as ever) but next year 'might' see a Dune re-read to go with the Otherland re-read. And thanks :o) I just want to get it out of the way and done now.

    1. Thanks and Thanks :o) It's a pretty straightforward thing, I'm just a nervous patient.
