More Movie Night! 'Half Term' Edition...

I'm not going to go into loads of detail about my week off, that's not what you're here for and I get that. For now, lets just say that I'm 'Best Dad Ever' and leave it at that ;o) Yep, the half term continues and the rule seems to be that if you can't keep up, you will be left behind. Which seems to be an incredibly apt way to describe my reading... I'm getting a page done here and there, not much more than that though If the girls go camping at the weekend, I'm hoping to catch up a little then. In the meantime though, I've been able to watch a few films here and there; it's about all I'm good for at the end of the day ;o) Let me tell you what I thought of them...

'Sea Fever' (2020)

Marine biology student Siobhan is out on a research excursion with a trawler crew fishing the West Irish seas, when an unfathomable life form ensnares the boat. The crew manage to free themselves but what has the creature left behind...?

I really wanted to love 'Sea Fever', not least because it looks absolutely amazing, gorgeously shot... Once you get past that though, a lesson in biology (apparently it was all a case of mistaken identity which I liked actually) makes for some great death scenes, and jump scares, but isn't enough to carry the whole movie. There are some good bits but there's also a lot of hanging around and doing nothing which isn't my thing. I'm glad that I gave it a go but you won't see me hurrying back for another watch.

'Becky' (2021)

A teenager's weekend away at a lake house takes a turn for the worse as she's forced to defend herself and her family from a group of escaped convicts.

There are absolutely no surprises here but damn, this was the movie that I needed to watch the other night. Lulu Wilson's 'Becky' tears through a group of escaped convicts and like I said, the ending is clearly signposted but that's besides the point when there is so much rage on show here. It's that rage that powers the movie on and made me wince at least twice while I was watching it. Still couldn't take my eyes off the screen though, Wilson's performance was amazing.

'Feeding The Masses' (2004)

When the government highjacks news outlets in an attempt to downplay a mysterious plague bringing the dead back to life, a group of news reporters and their military escort risk their lives to broadcast the truth.

I'm always saying that zombies would a lot easier to deal with if people actually worked together, just once, so I was immediately a big fan of the message behind 'Feeding The Masses', that it is actually possible to do this. It's a bit of a shame then that they didn't want to follow this theme to a conclusion, although the bleak ending was a half decent trade off. It's also a real shame that the budget clearly wasn't there to do this movie justice... Not a bad movie though ;o)
