Catching Up With ‘Moon Knight’ Again… ‘Asylum’ & ‘Gods and Monsters’

‘Moon Knight’ was the series that I came into knowing least about but now it’s done and it’s probably the series that I want to see continue the most. Are you the same? A the same time, it’s also the series where I’ve been the worst at watching it on time and then blogging about it afterwards. You can blame, well, everything for that but even though I’m a little on the late side, I get there in the end 😊 And in that vein, here I am with some quickish thoughts about the last two episodes. ‘Quickish’ because, well… All the normal reasons apply 😉

As per normal, I won’t be re-capping the episodes because ‘Asylum’ is a week old now and it’s better if you go into ‘Gods & Monsters’ cold as it were. If you’re after plot recaps though, go to Tor.com for recaps of each episode. They’re really detailed over there 😉 If you’re still here, lets do this one more time…

‘Asylum’

I’ll be honest, a large part of the reason why I didn’t post about this last week is because ‘Asylum’ was so intense that I literally couldn’t; I had to wait for a week and let it all sink in first. Here we are now and I’m still in awe of Oscar Isaacs’s performance here as we see the events that led to his personality fracturing. Honestly, there were moments where I had to remember to take a breath, it was that intense. Everything that Grant is takes on a whole new meaning after this episode and I just want to give him a big hug… ☹ While all this is happening, Spector and Grant are trying to escape the psychiatric hospital which ends up being a whole lot more (which isn’t surprising when their guide is the Egyptian goddess Taweret). Through it all, it’s great to see Spector and Grant slowly reconcile although there’s clearly more to do before their scales can balance (there’s one more episode to go so of course there is). And the way this episode ends… You know there’s a way back (that whole ‘one more episode’ thing) but you can’t see how that might happen. Well, I couldn’t anyway…

‘Gods and Monsters’

Which leads us to a finale that is one glorious mess of action and standoffs (Grant vs Konshu is a personal favourite of mine) as everything gets pulled together, coming with an ending that really has me hoping for another season of ‘Moon Knight’, please let there be another season of ‘Moon Knight’! People far more familiar with the comic will doubtless get a lot more out of the ending but I was happy enough in the meantime. It’s still a neat twist and answers a pretty big question that has been hanging over the show. You know the one I mean 😉

As for the rest of it… ‘Gods and Monsters’ is a mess of battling gods and their avatars doing likewise. It’s a mess but it’s a fun mess so that’s ok 😉 Sometimes the story has to take a backseat to heroes and villains showing what they can do (which is what Marvel is all about, in a way), quite a lot if this episode is anything to go by. I would totally watch an ‘Avatar of Taweret’ series by the way, just saying. And that’s all I have for ‘Gods and Monsters’… It was fun and tied up some important plot strands in the best way. And that ending, damn…

So that’s ‘Moon Knight’, more than worth watching if you haven’t already (but you have, I know you have) You can read my other posts over Here. And now it’s all about sitting back and waiting for the next series to arrive. Which is ‘Ms Marvel’, isn’t it?
