'The Walking Dead: World Beyond', Episode Eight – 'The Sky is a Graveyard'

If you have been following this blog for the last couple of months, you will have seen go from 'Wow, new Walking Dead Show!' to 'This show needs to sort itself out' to 'Okay, that was brilliant' on to 'What? No! Don't slow down again...' It's been a roller coaster ride alright, unfortunately spiralling downwards though... I'm a glutton for punishment though, and zombies, so figured I'd tough it out for the last three episodes.

Having said all that though, last week's episode did end with a mystery to be solved. Did Silas really cave Tony's head in or was he just having a quiet drink in the toilet when it all went down? And if he was, why was he covered in blood? And why sneak a drink in the toilet when they're all in a large building with plenty of room to be alone? Okay, that last one was me (who has never boozed it up in a bathroom) but you get where I'm coming from ;o)

So I sat down and watched 'The Sky is a Graveyard' and damn you 'Walking Dead: World Beyond', you got me interested again and there's only two episodes left after this one...

So remember that big building they're all camped out in? Well apparently they can't find a room with a lock so they tie Silas up outside and leave him, for the night, while they agonise over what to do next. Maybe they were hoping for a little zombie justice so they wouldn't have to make a hard decision? Whatever the thinking, it's another example of the group either not being written well enough or just not being suited to life in the wilderness, despite having two adult guides with them who should know better...

But then you think about it a little and realise it could be something else entirely. The real killer wants Silas out of the way and if he was to die in the meantime, so much the better...

Yes, that's how much I got into this episode. I've always had a soft spot for Silas and it's clear that his rage has been used to set him up as the clear choice of killer when it's really... I'm not going to name names but look out for the apology dressed up as an apology for something else. Then see what that particular character does at the end of the episode. Silas is gone but we haven't seen the last of him, I'm sure of that.

'The Sky is a Graveyard' is a really powerful episode as not only do we finally get to see what made Silas flip, and kill his Dad, but Hope also makes a confession that splits the group up even more. Even Iris has taken off her rose tinted glasses, just for a bit, and realised that danger is closer to her than she ever thought. Honestly, it's all kicking off now with what seems like one thing after another coming to light. Silas deservedly takes centre stage and it's actually heartbreaking to see him go through this episode not being able to remember what happened so just assuming, like everyone else, that he did it. Elton's world collapsing around him is also hard to take but you know that there are still two episodes to go so I'd like to think that there's a way back for both of them.

The group is fractured then and there are signs of much worse to come. Who is the asset? My money is on Felix but we'll see. Everything is set up for potentially a couple of explosive episodes to round things off but this is 'World Beyond' so it could quite easily end up being the opposite. Fingers crossed then, for next couple of weeks, but 'The Sky is a Graveyard' is a great example of what 'World Beyond' could be if it really wanted, please don't mess it up...
