Books for the TBR Pile, 'Birthday Book Buying' Edition!

I had a pretty awesome birthday yesterday, thanks very much :o) I didn't have any big plans other than to hang out with my daughters, during the bits where they weren't at school, so after I'd dropped them off in the morning I decided to go for a little walk and see where the day took me. As it happened, the day took to places where there were loads of books for me to buy :o) Sometimes, you just can't argue with destiny... Let me show what I got...

So, first of all, I took a wander into Deptford as I knew the market would be on. Wednesday is one of the days where the house clearance people sell all the stuff they've cleared out, you never quite know what you're going to find so it's always worth a look if in you're in the area. It's never really been a place for books though, until yesterday when I found all of this stuff (all incredibly well looked after, it's sad to think that the original owner isn't there to look after these books now, I'll take care of them though)...

I'd heard of this series but never seen it in the flesh (so to speak) so when I saw these books, with their absolutely gorgeous cover art, I knew I had to have them. I love a bit of Sword and Sorcery and these books are like a 'Who's Who' of the genre. I'm looking forward to giving these a go...

'Thongor the Barbarian'! Another series that I'd heard mention of but never seen (and never thought I would either). Did I mention that all these books were 50p each? I couldn't say no so didn't :o) First impressions are that Lin Carter can't come up with a decent sounding name and that Thongor could do with getting himself some decent headgear. We'll see how the actual stories pan out another time.

And these are the books that I couldn't quite squeeze into the other pictures... ;o) I've got a bit of a soft spot for Brak the Barbarian so 'Brak the Barbarian versus the Sorceress' was a nice little find. No idea what 'Death Trek' will be like but Vantro the Barbarian wins 'Best Named Barbarian' (although that's a low bar to hurdle here).

Coming to the end of the 'Deptford Purchases' now... I hoovered up 'Lord of the Spiders' without too much thought but, what's this? An anthology of speculative 'Dinosaur short stories'? Of course I was going to buy it :o) I don't even care if the stories are rubbish, it has a T-Rex in front of a mushroom cloud! I'm really hoping there's a story about a T-Rex nuclear arms race (fingers crossed)...

And then it was off to Greenwich and Waterstones where I found myself a copy of 'The Pale Horseman'. I still need to read 'The Last Kingdom' but we won't talk about that now... ;o) I also bought a copy of Guy Haley's 'Titandeath' but my phone refuses to take a decent picture of it, what can you do (apart from read the book, which I am).
'The Sleeping Sorceress' was an Amazon purchase waiting for me when I got home. I think I've got all the 'Elric' books now.

Last picture, honest! I'm never entirely comfortable if I don't have a copy of 'Fungus the Bogeyman' in the house so had to grab it when I saw it on Deptford Market. And I'm loving Archaia's 'Dark Crystal' books so treated myself to a nice hardback copy of 'Beneath the Dark Crystal Volume 1'. It's very likely you'll see it reviewed here in the next week or two...

Thanks for bearing with me :o) Quite a sweet little book haul if I do say so myself... Are there any here that you'd like to see me post about?
