Books for the TBR Pile... 'Last Bonus Spree' Edition
Over the last eight years I've been lucky enough to be paid a yearly bonus; some of which went on books because of course it did ;o) Did I say 'some'? I meant to say... Erm... 'Some'...? Hush you, no judgment here ;o)
Anyway...
A few days ago, I got my last bonus from the old job. I didn't go crazy with it (you know, 'last bonus' and all that) but I did take myself for a little look round the Warhammer Store, on Tottenham Court Road, and managed to not only stay away from the cool looking models (for now) but come back with some cool looking books. Here they are...
Apologies for the photo... Turns out that I'm not just missing the all round 'comfiness' of the comfy chair, I'm also missing the backdrop it provides for 'book pictures'. (Note to Self: Sort out a new comfy chair this week...)
Part of the reason that I went in the Warhammer Store was that I wanted to give my reading a little 'shot in the arm' after a difficult couple of weeks; I think these three titles should do the required business.
I'll never say no to an Imperial Guard novel, even if very few have reached the standard that Dan Abnett set with his 'Gaunt's Ghosts' books. And that's no slur on the current output by the way, the 'Gaunt's Ghosts' books (that I have read) have just been brilliant. Anyway... Instead of concentrating on just one regimental faction, 'Auxilia' looks like it takes a little bit of several types of infantry and throws it all together to see what happens. I'm up for that ;o)
Now, 'Dropsite Massacre'... I've got a horrible feeling that I already have this in hardback but... The hardback doesn't travel well in my bag so I'm not going to feel too bad about including it in this haul. I've got a couple of hospital appointments this week, as it happens, maybe 'Dropsite Massacre' will join me.
And 'Apostle' looks like it's going to be a good example of the kind of horror that only David Annandale can bring to a setting that has plenty of those moments already. There's at least one Word Bearer here, at least as far as the blurb goes, and if you're after horror, one Word Bearer is all you need. I'm looking forward to getting stuck into this book too.
And that's your lot for this week, I'm going to look at comfy chairs. Anything here takes your fancy? I'll include the books in the background as well ;o)

I'm always on the lookout for new-to-me Astra Militarum books, so I'll be looking forward to what you have to say about Auxilia.
ReplyDeleteI'll swap 'Auxilia' for 'Dropsite Massacre' then and see if I can finish it this week ;o)
