Books for the TBR Pile... 'Still Really Tired' Edition

Sorry for the 'Blogging Silence' yesterday... Last week was relentless and about all I was good for yesterday was a bus ride to Halcyon Books and then a short trip Starbucks for a Caramel Frappuccino. That and watching a few movies but I'll tell you about those another day  ;o)

It is a fact well established that when I'm low, I will inevitably try and cheer myself up by buying books. I've been pretty good at not doing this, just recently, but this week was a tough one (work, chronic health condition and depression, not a good mix at all) so... Here's another 'Books for the TBR Pile' post. I'll try and leave it a little longer until the next one ;o)

The 'Amazon Pile'

Because it was payday the other day :o) 

I've always meant to give 'The Ruins' a go, I quite enjoyed the film, so grabbed myself a copy. This feels like a 'Summer Holiday Read' so I won't be opening it just yet. It feels like it's been a while since I read any 'Age of Sigmar' and 'The Last Volari' was on offer so an easy choice to make :o) And 'Killer on the Road'... I love Stephen Graham Jones' books and the title had a real 'Duel' vibe to it. Lets see if I'm right or not.


The 'Halcyon Books Pile'

I thought I'd get out of the house for a bit and 'Halcyon Books' isn't that far away... :o) The Sci-Fi/Fantasy shelves are down to the bare bones now ('Halcyon Books' is a used bookshop so they're dependent on what comes in in terms of what they can stock) but there were still a few treasures to be had...

'The Time Monster' is another welcome addition to my 'Doctor Who' collection and probably the book most likely to feature here first, in this picture anyway. 'Swords of the Legion' was a random purchase (I'm a sucker for any fantasy books that mention a Legion, I'm just weird like that) and I enjoyed 'The Electric Church', last time round, and figured I was overdue a re-read.

'After the King' looked very intriguing, so I grabbed it quick, but it doesn't look like it's the anthology of stories set in Middle Earth that I initially thought it was. I don't know why I thought that to be honest, I have not been thinking straight this week :o( Doesn't matter though, the contents page is still giving me high hopes for this collection.

    I've read the misplaced legion and the sequel, An Emperor for the legion and decided to stop. turtledove does alternate history and I was not a big fan. So I never made it to Swords for the Legion. Best of luck :-D

‘Hellraiser 3: Hell on Earth’ (1992)

Every time Halloween comes round, I promise myself that I’ll watch more horror films and read more horror fiction; we’re halfway through the month and you can see how that’s going so far… There’s still plenty of October left though so lets see how I do from now until the end of the month ;o) First up is ‘Hellraiser 3’ which I watched last night, mostly because I love it (you can tell how this post is going to go, sorry…) but also because it was cheap on Prime and I’m still just on the wrong side of payday. 'Conan the Barbarian: Battle of the Black Stone’ – Zub, Scharf, Canola (Titan Comics, Heroic Signatures)

It’s starting to look like this could be the week where I make a half decent dent in my ‘Comics TBR Pile’, lets see how we do... I’ve really been struggling with the ‘Savage Sword of Conan’ collection just recently (more than one reason but I want to finish the collection first before I talk about it) and I thought that I’d have to take a little step back from ‘Conan’ comics and come back when I was in a better mood for it. Until I realized that there was another ‘Conan’ comic lurking in the TBR pile and maybe I could give that a go instead. So that’s what I did. I’ve caught little glimpses of the ‘Black Stone’ storyline, in other ‘Conan’ comics, but I can’t help but feel that the event has kind of passed me by a little. That’s on me though to be fair, I’ve got the attention span of a goldfish right now and there are so many books that I just haven’t been able to focus on; I suspect a couple of them talk about a Black Stone… Oh well, I’m here now.
