Catching up with the MCU...

Because it's been a little while hasn't it? It has, we're talking May and finishing off 'Moon Knight'... What happened? Well, 'Ms. Marvel' popped up during a heavy period of work and turned out that it wasn't what I needed to switch off and relax.. I've heard a lot of good things about it though so wil give it another go (I only made it through about an episode and a half, maybe two, before putting it to one side). And as far as the movies go... Well, I think I've become that person who is happy to wait until it all hits Disney+ rather than catch it at the cinema. I also feel like middle age is hitting me pretty damn hard (especially in that last sentence) but that's another story.

Anyway... I've had a little free time, in the evenings, just recently so decided that now would be as good a time as any to catch up on a couple of bits (otherwise it will be just like me and the comics, I'll never get caught up). Have some quick thoughts on what I watched... Careful though, there will be spoilers.

'She-Hulk, Attorney at Law' – Season 1, Episode 1: 'A Normal Amount of Rage'

I know next to nothing about She-Hulk (apart from that she had a little thing with Thor in one of my 'Avengers' comics) but while a little knowledge is never a bad thing, it's not needed here, at least not from where I was sat. You don't get much more than an intro to Jennifer Walters, and how she becomes She-Hulk, but you don't need much more than that when you have Tatiana Maslany just being brilliant, whether she's green or not. This episode was a lot of fun and I'm hoping that we see less of Bruce as the show moves forward, Jen has got this one.

'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' (2022)

I really enjoyed this movie, not least because it's clearly the closest we're going to get to a live action 'Marvel Zombies' event (prove me wrong MCU, prove me wrong...) There is so much going on, and in different universes too; I suspect this film may be pivotal to the MCU eventually bringing us the X-Men (incursions...) but we'll see. In the meantime, Benedict Cumberbatch continues to make the perfect Doctor Strange and the movie does a great line in fan service, giving us tantalising glimpses of fan favourites in the Illuminati. It's dark as well... The 'Infinity War' movies clearly had the larger body count but 'Multiverse' gets all up close and personal and is more hard hitting as a result.

A good movie then, on that score, but... Marvel really screwed Wanda's character over, didn't they? Are you seriously telling me that in a Multiverse of boundless possibility, there isn't at least one universe with two orphans in need of a Mum? Or a universe where Vision is a single Dad...? Wanda has not only been through a lot but she deserved a happy ending as much as the next Avenger. Like Black Widow for example... hang on... ;o)

A good movie on the whole, just a real shame about Wanda's arc as a whole.
